SMALL BATCH SCOTLAND

In the creation of this Small Batch design our mission was to pay a proper tribute to the most iconic city in golf and launch during the Women’s Open Championship at St. Andrews.

This most significant place in our game inspired us to explore the charming surroundings of the Old Course, and the many small shops that populate the streets nearby. Many of these shops date back hundreds of years and were home to some of the very first golf club makers in the world. Old Tom Morris and the Auchterlonies honed their legendary skills here.

That inspiration led us to the creation of Small Batch Scotland and the thoughts of Toulon having a family business there years ago. Toulon and Sons felt like the appropriate name for our theoretical shop.

We set out to create this concept of a store front sign that would quietly
identify the activity that would take place inside, and just as many of the businesses that line the neighborhood streets of St. Andrews were family
owned and operated, so are we. Inside the shops, most had family
members tending to the businesses and many had a family dog. These dogs of St. Andrews have the distinct pleasure of enjoying the Old Course every Sunday, when the course closes down and becomes one of the largest dog parks in the world.

A TRIBUTE TO JACK.

So as much as Scotland pays tribute to the incredible Home of Golf, it also celebrates the contributions of these historical family businesses to golf. The sole of Small Batch Scotland represents what our shop may have looked like had it lined the streets of St. Andrews a century ago and is finished with a tribute to our beloved and recently departed shop dog Jack.

With all of this as a backdrop, we have created our first Toulon & Sons putter. And as opening salvos go, we couldn’t be prouder of its outcome. Toulon & Sons Scotland is stunning in every way.

THE HEAD

We wanted to pay tribute to vintage putter design but as always, modernize it so the finished putter is not just nostalgic in all the most beautiful ways, but one that would also play today at the very highest levels. That means aside from the look of every radius, blend and proportion being meticulously pored over, it had to sound and feel equally great. To modernize Scotland, we added a modified H1 hosel to the classic pintail design, lengthened the blade length to a modern 4.5 inches and designed a tailored and elegant squared off shoulder and bumper design.

The cavity design allows us to bring the putter into modern proportion for both length and width but it also improves Scotland’s MOI to make it very forgiving.

Upon close inspection of the topline – and most evident while looking at the putter from the face on perspective – you’ll notice the gently raised and curved topline design. This not only pays homage to great pintail designs from the past, but subtly moves the CG to the center of the putter head, improving sound and feel and overall performance.

The cavity

The back cavity design features a crest we designed for our family. The crosses in the center signify unity in our family and the detail on the top of the badge represents our five family members while the sixth is emblematic of the beloved dogs we’ve been blessed to have as family members over the years.

The face mill pattern is a fine double fly cut which was chosen for its artistic flair – and with the addition of the big tuna over mill, it creates just the right amount of audio feedback.

THE REST OF THE PACKAGE

A celebration of the Home of Golf and the contributions of family businesses to golf equipment required a special headcover. The Toulon family has had a close personal relationship with another family-owned business -- Seamus Golf -- dating back nearly a decade. To finish Small Batch Scotland, we collaborated with our dear friends at Seamus to create a beautiful wool Toulon & Sons headcover featuring an iconic Scottish tartan pattern. We thank the wonderful team at Seamus for their contribution to Small Batch Toulon & Sons Scotland.

Scotland – Nostalgic yet modern and undeniably beautiful.
