Four-hundred-fifty-two miles north of Austin resides the city of Tulsa, Oklahoma – the namesake of our latest Small Batch creation.
Tulsa has many charming attributes that drew us in. Aside from the incredible connection to championship golf – Tulsa’s own magnificent Southern Hills Country Club has hosted more PGA Championships than any other golf course – the town is famous for several other things that we draw inspiration from for our brand.
As a starter, Tulsa is known as the Capital of Route 66. This iconic highway runs through Tulsa and all the way to the west coast where it ends in Santa Monica, California.
Secondly, from our very beginnings nine years ago, our graphic design has been rooted in the Art Deco style. Tulsa is a veritable hot bed for Art Deco architectural design that is rooted back to its vast oil discoveries in the 1920s. Many significant structures were built around this time and stand today as phenomenal examples of the style, including the iconic Golden Driller.
THE PUTTER
It’s all about the sound.
The body shape for Tulsa started with our Austin design and we began massaging it from there. First, we tweaked the thickness of the face in strategic areas in an effort to help great a slightly deeper sound. Small variations in thickness can help create slightly different frequencies and pitches that the human ear can identify, and combined with other variables like hosel design, materials and mill patterns, we can begin to move the sound and resulting feel into a different place. This fine-tuning helps to create the sound that we were searching for – a deep and incredibly solid Tulsa Sound that provides the golfer with magnificent and rewarding feedback.
The HOSEL
With Tulsa, we also introduce our new H5 hosel design. This hosel creates a putter with more toe hang than our H1 design and is similar in look to the style used by one of the greatest putters in the game today. Tulsa is a perfect fit for golfers with moderate to more rotation in their strokes. Visually we wanted to inspire confidence for those golfers that like to rotate the blade more.
Small Batch Tulsa was inspired by many thoughts, but from the very beginning the performance goals were to create the perfect sound, the perfect feel and the perfect feedback. As always, we looked to create a piece whose top line, blade length and blade width is in appropriate proportion and is in harmony for size.
