We are proud to introduce two new designs: Hollywood Carbon Proto and Las Vegas Carbon Proto – meticulously milled from 1020 Carbon Steel. These new designs represent a strong nod to the origins of the milled putters.

Carbon steel, particularly 1020 carbon, is renowned for its soft feel and incredible sound and can be found today in some of the most sought after forged irons.

We have been drawn to this material for quite some time because of its sound and feel, but if carbon steel had one drawback, it was durability. Carbon steel putters in the past were particularly susceptible to rust, but using our experience in milled carbon steel design, we were able to develop a plating that creates durability, easy care, and a tour inspired look.

What we created comes to life in these two new designs – a new blade called Hollywood and a totally redesigned Las Vegas. Both are beautiful and with minimal care will provide years of lasting beauty and outstanding performance.

Redesigning the Shoulders

Taking design cues from our classic San Diego blade, the intent for Hollywood was to soften the shoulders and bumpers to create more visual flow to the inherent tailored design. Increasing the radii and softening all the edges, Hollywood takes the beauty of San Diego to another level.

Redesigning the shoulders to flow in a concave shape rather than a straight downward slope helped create the visual movement we wanted. More intense blends on the H1 hosel create a more vintage look and the fine double fly with a big tuna over mill finishes off the face to solidify the sound, feel and look we wanted.

A softened tri-sole

The softening continues to the sole with our new modified tri-sole design. Leaving a relatively flat center section ensures the new Hollywood will sole perfectly, while the gentle heel and toe relief add to the vintage look.

The graceful micro-milling and fine brush to the sole provide the perfect canvas for the minimal graphics that adorn the sole.

REDESIGNED LAS VEGAS

Taking design cues from our classic Las Vegas design, the intent for Las Vegas Carbon Proto was to soften the design to create more visual flow. This was tricky and required rounding the interior flange, increasing every radius and softening all edges including the backs of the wings. While these design changes sound minimal, they dramatically change not only the look of the design but alter the feel as well.

Internally, we completely redesigned the milling under the soleplate – eliminating unwanted vibration and creating the deep and satisfying feedback that carbon steel putters from years ago were so famous for. The result is one of the most exceptional feeling winged mallet putters we have made. Las Vegas Carbon Proto delivers performance and beauty in spades.

The finishing touches

As always, both Hollywood and Las Vegas adhere to our basic design ethos – less is more. Minimalistic design leaves no room for error. Every element must quickly make its full impact.

The face features only our circle hammer logo while the sole offers only a simple yet playful Hollywood or Las Vegas script and the Carbon Proto callout in the Toulon font.

The back cavity unveils our first use of our vintage speed typestyle – another nod to the origins of great milled putter creations from years gone by.

Paint fill was kept minimal and sparse in only white and red to allow your eye to focus on the beauty of the shapes.
